Cuthbertson High School Instrumental Music Program
Cuthbertson High School opened its doors in August 2009. Since then, the instrumental music program has challenged students to pursue a musical journey of excellence. In 2024, at the beginning of its 16th academic year, the instrumental music program has grown from 29 students in its inaugural class to include three concert band classes, The Mighty Marching Cavaliers, Friday Night Lights home football band, jazz band, percussion ensemble, chamber winds, rock bands, and winterguard units.
The high school program has received multiple invitations to perform at each North Carolina State Convention, Music For All Southeastern Regional festival, University of South Carolina Honors Band clinic, University of Georgia JanFest, and on the featured stage at the Music For All National Concert Band Festival.
In 2014, both the Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Bands were invited to perform at the National Percy Grainger Festival in Chicago, Illinois. The Symphonic band has also participated in the North Carolina Honors festival and the National Adjudicators festival.

Additional accolades awarded to the Cuthbertson band program include the National Wind Band Honors “Mark of Excellence”, The National Band Associations “Blue Ribbon of Excellence” for the Southeastern region, and The American Prize for both concert band and chamber winds. Spring 2024 marked the 10th consecutive year of receiving the National Association of Music Merchants “Best Communities for Music Education” Merit Award. The Cuthbertson band program and our chapter of Tri-M have commissioned 8 new works of music and been a part of more than a dozen consortiums.
The success of the Cuthbertson instrumental music program is credited to its student performers, supportive school and district administration, excellent parent booster organization, and the husband and wife teaching team of Todd and Katie Ebert.
